The University of Évora, the host of the Paleo Fall Meeting, was created in 1559 and it is the second oldest university in Portugal. Divided into four schools present within and around the city of Évora, identified by the symbol of a dove on a marble’s circle. The dove symbolizes its corporative identity’s two main objectives, the Ascension and Dynamism, with the red circle meaning security and solid knowledge regarding the teaching given by the institution.
The HERCULES Laboratory (Cultural Heritage, Study, and Safeguard) is an integral part of the University of Évora created in 2009. It’s a research infrastructure devoted to the study, conservation and valorization of cultural heritage, focused on the integration of physical and material sciences methodologies and tools on areas such as biochemistry, microbiology, nanotechnology, and geosciences.
The Institute of Earth Sciences is a research unit established in 2014 at the University of Évora, Minho, and Porto. It approaches topics related to Geosciences, focusing on the study of Planet Earth’s preservation concerning Geological resources such as water, wind and solar energy. Also aims at providing incentive mechanisms to young students/researchers from geosciences, applying projects to develop scientific investigations.
